PHP

PHP is Pre-Hypertext Processing language, a specific coding language that is processed at a web server.

This means that the server can dynamically alter the resulting web pages before thay are sent across the Internet to the browser. This is a common way of generating website from database content.

Different, but conceptually similar coding languages include ASP, dotNet, JSP and Cold Fusion.
