Cost Per Acquisition

The cost per acquisition (CPA) is the cost for every sale that your site makes in relation to the investment that has been made and the number of sales that this investment has resulted in. Cost per acquisition can be calculated thus: total click costs / number of conversions = CPA.

This figure can be calculated by analysing the sales figures to a site and comparing to the spend. Often you will find that, in many markets, search engine optimisation will offer a better cost per acquisition than through the application of PPC, though it will take longer for the benefits of this investment to be seen.
